Another Chance for Wonderfalls to Break Through

Interesting how Fox's much-touted Wonderfalls isn't getting the reception they wanted; I'm not sure I like it very much either, but this much-anticipated mid-season starter was the latest darling, and it's always a little dismaying to see something that's trying to be a little different take it in the nads. This isn't the best of times to be bringing out a drama; as I've bemoaned here recently, Karen Sisco, Threat Matrix, Jake 2.0, Line of Duty, and several others have been and gone (probably permanently), and the latest of the pack, Century City, The D.A. and Wonderfalls don't seem to be faring any better. I don't know about you, but I'm finding this season to be a little depressing, mostly for what it says about what's become of the nation's tolerance level for nasty business, and people's downright fascination with making the seven deadly sins part of their "To Do" list, or at least their "To Watch" one. Fie on reality TV! I love an underdog, even one I don't like, and so I'll be watching Wonderfalls tonight at 9pm on Fox.

On the good news/bad news front, Showtime's The Chris Isaak Show is still great, even while throwing in something I hoped they wouldn't -- Chris and his manager Yola are getting it on -- but unfortunately the last two episodes premiered last night and will be replayed several more times until this terrific gem of a show is no more. After a looong way between the 2nd and 3rd seasons, with a mean girlfriend for Chris in Year Two, and then another semi-mean one this season (thankfully she's been dumped in favor of Yola), it's a shame that more people haven't been able to watch one of the most delightful hours on TV. Let's hope that VH1 (or somebody else) plays the episodes again, but that looks doubtful what with the change of emphasis on the channel. Barring that, let's hope for the DVDs soon, and maybe even we'll get a miracle and Isaak will decide to do some more episodes. Fat chance, but hope springs eternal. Be sure to catch the last two episodes which are running in tandem this week. Check Showtime's website for times, but I do know it's airing tonight at midnight and 1am.

Another good thing this season is that Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show has been kicking some ass, which is good news for Comedy and good news for fans of the extremely talented comedian Dave Chappelle. I love him, and it's tremendously exciting to think that he's getting the audience he deserves. We know that doesn't always happen in TV, and congrats to Comedy for picking and supporting a good one!
